Earnings Tax Division sends faux political contribution request SMS/electronic mail

The Finance Ministry on Saturday (December 13, 2025) introduced that the Earnings Tax Division has began sending SMS and electronic mail advisories to taxpayers relating to unfair deduction claims associated to unrecognized political events and charities.

The Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) stated that by way of knowledge evaluation, it was confirmed that enormous quantities of pretend claims had been being made for donations to registered unrecognized political events (RUPPs) and charities, decreasing tax legal responsibility and likewise making faux refund claims.

It added that many taxpayers have already amended their earnings tax returns for 2025-26 and filed up to date ITRs for earlier years.
