Weeks earlier than the Bihar meeting polls, the Nationwide Fee for Backward Courses (NCBC) requested the Bihar authorities to offer information on the socio-economic and academic backwardness of the 18 castes that the state needed to incorporate within the core record of Different Backward Courses (OBCs). This infuriated the RJD, calling all the train a “belated lollipop dangling by the Nitish authorities”.
The 18 caste teams are Batam Vaishya, Biyahut Karwar, Chippi, Dhonwar, Sayee/Fakir/Diwan (Muslim), Goldar, Gosai, Lakshmi Narayan Gora, Madriya (Muslim), Saintwar, Modak/Mayra, Samri Vaishya, Surjapuri Muslim, Sutradar, and Bhat. (Muslim), Godi, Partha and Itpazi/Ibrahimi are included within the central OBC record. In response to the Bihar Caste Survey 2023, OBCs and Extraordinarily Backward Courses (EBCs) represent 27% and 36% respectively of the state’s inhabitants of 13.07 billion.
