On Tuesday (July 8, 2025), the Ministry of Finance denied stories that it had directed the shutdown of inert Prime Minister Jan Dhan Yojana.

“In relation to stories revealed within the Division of Monetary Providers (DFS) media, M/O Finance has requested the financial institution to shut the inert Prime Minister Jan Dhan Yojana account. The Ministry of Monetary Providers stated it has not requested the financial institution to shut the inert PM of Jan Dhan Yojana,” the ministry stated in an announcement.

The assertion added that the Ministry of Monetary Providers has launched a three-month marketing campaign beginning on July 1 to deepen the adoption of Prime Minister Jan Dhan Yojana, Jeevan Jyoti Bima Yojana, Atal Pension Yojana and different welfare schemes.

“The financial institution will even run Rekyc on all due date accounts throughout this marketing campaign,” the assertion stated. “DFS is consistently monitoring the variety of inoperable PMJDY accounts and advises banks to contact their respective account holders to run their accounts.”

It added that the incident of mass closure of inactive PMJDY accounts has not come to division information.
