Mudragada Padmanabha, a controversial Kapus chief from Kakinada who spearheaded the demand for inclusion of Kapus in Andhra Pradesh’s Backward Courses (BC) checklist, handed away at a hospital in Hyderabad on Tuesday after an extended sickness. He was 73 years outdated.
Mudragada, who belonged to Kirampudi in Kakinada district, has emerged because the face of the Kapu group’s reservation motion after the bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh in 2014. Kapu make up an estimated 15% to 18% of the state’s inhabitants and have historically been thought of an influential constituency that might sway election outcomes, as they historically don’t vote en masse for any political social gathering.
After the partition of the state, Mudragada intensified his calls for for BC standing for Kapus. Each TDP chief N Chandrababu Naidu, who turned Andhra Pradesh’s first post-partition chief minister, and YS Jagan Mohan Reddy, who later turned CM in 2019, assured the group that Kapus’ calls for could be thought of. Nevertheless, neither authorities succeeded in securing the Kapu settlement, and Mudragada turned more and more dissatisfied.
